Rules & Terms of Service

1. Contest Overview

hacker games ("the Contest") is a series of head-to-head challenges in which participants compete in timed games. The Contest is operated by the hacker games organizing team ("Organizers").

2. Eligibility

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
Participants may compete as individuals (solo) or as part of a registered team.
Each participant may only register once. Duplicate registrations will be disqualified.
Organizers reserve the right to deny or revoke registration at their discretion.

3. Code of Conduct

All participants must conduct themselves professionally and respectfully.
Harassment, intimidation, or disruptive behavior will result in immediate disqualification.
Participants must not interfere with other competitors' systems, networks, or gameplay — play hard, but don't step on anyone's toes.
Any attempts to exploit, hack, or disrupt the contest infrastructure will result in removal.
Decisions of the Organizers and judges are final.

4. Game Rules

Each game has its own specific rules, which will be provided before the game begins.
Scores are tracked automatically by the contest platform.
In the event of a tie, the Organizers will determine the tiebreaker method.
Games may be played in-person or online as designated by the Organizers.

5. Privacy & Data Protection

What we collect and why. Registration data (team/player name, email address, handle, team size) is collected solely to run the contest: identifying teams, operating the games, and maintaining the scoreboard. This is the minimum data needed to participate. Legal basis: your consent, given at registration.
Where it lives. All data is stored locally on the event server. It is not transferred to third parties, cloud analytics, or advertising services. Email addresses are never shared without your explicit consent.
Registration required to play. You must register and be logged in to access the games. Scores and handles may be displayed publicly on the scoreboard.
Deletion at end of event. When the event ends, all registration data is permanently deleted from the event systems, and every participant receives a notification confirming their data has been removed. Team scores (which contain no personal data) may be kept for the archive.
Optional data retention (off by default). At registration — or any time afterwards on your account page — you may opt in to letting the Organizers keep your name, email, and handle after the event. This data is used for one purpose only: contacting you about job-recruiting opportunities. It is never used for marketing and never shared. You can withdraw this consent at any time on the account page (while the site is up) or by contacting the Organizers; withdrawal is as easy as giving consent, and your data is then deleted.
Your rights. You may access your data (account page), correct it (contact the Organizers), and erase it at any time via the Delete My Data form — no questions asked. Deleted records are moved to an encrypted recycle bin (AES-256-GCM) and held for at most 30 days so accidental deletions can be restored from the same page; the recycle bin is purged on a monthly sweep and fully purged at end of event. Once purged, records cannot be recovered.

6. Liability Waiver

By registering for the Contest, participants acknowledge and agree that:

Participation is voluntary and at the participant's own risk.
The Organizers are not liable for any damages, losses, or injuries arising from participation.
The Organizers may modify, suspend, or cancel the Contest at any time without prior notice.
Prizes, if any, are awarded at the sole discretion of the Organizers.

7. Modifications

The Organizers reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Continued participation after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
